So, I'm sitting at home minding my own business, when my wife, who is an actress, calls me from rehearsal in L.A. and says, "Hey, we need someone to play the Doctor in A Streetcar Named Desire."
(My wife is playing Stella in a production of that classic Tennessee Williams play. They're touring 3 states across the western U.S. As part of their plan, they have a local person play the doctor in each city they appear.)
So I say, ok, but maybe it's a better fit for that guy who looks like me, you know, Frank the Nobody. So she says, maybe, but why don't you look at the script and read it, see if you like it, etc.
Well, what are ya gonna do when your wife has been out of town for 3 weeks rehearsing and she wants you to do something when she gets back to town, right?
So I read the script, and right away I see some problems. First, I'm not an actor. Second, I'm not getting paid for this, third, well, I'm not an actor. So, I punt it to FTN - that guy who looks like me.
He looks at the script and eventually agrees to do it, but, NOT before he analyzes the hell out of it and gets the director to change some things around! And here is how he did it!:
